Hockey World Championships

Post by Henrik on Mon May 20 2013, 08:10

I know the Stanley Cup is still on, but the IIHF Hockey World Championships just finished last night with Sweden taking gold. Now that is not a huge surprise, and certainly not the first time, but what has been amazing this year is the performance of Switzerland.

They started the tournament by beating Sweden. Next they went on to beat Canada, follow by the Czech Republic. Basically they won every single game in the selections, and finished first in their group to go on to the quarter finals. In the quarters, they again beat the Czechs, and then knocked out USA in the semis.

They started the finals perfectly, taking the lead early on and were dominating the match. However, Sweden then managed to turn things around and came back to 2-1 at the end of the first period. Second period was balanced, and the score didn't change. Finally in the third period, Sweden fully took over the game, and clearly the Swiss were getting tired. The end result was 5-1, but it is not a fair reflection as to how well Switzerland actually played.

Well done Switzerland, and welcome to the big boys club!

I don't know much about Hockey...but I have friend back east who is obsessed with Hockey as we are with racing.

He told me to watch a movie called "Goon" on Netflix.

I LMAO. It's gross and funny and touching...and made me want to watch Hockey.

I've realized over the years that even though I don't like Football, baseball etc...I really enjoy the movies.

For love of the game
Rudy
Bull Durham
The Blind Side

Those are in no order...and just a few.

Sorry about the thread Jack Henrik...and congrats to Switzerland!

No worries H8R!

I'm not really big on any team sports, but I will make an exception for hockey and rugby.

Then again, motorsport is a sort of team sport as well...
