Re: My Grandson
Harry (the Grandson) is doing well in the first couple of days practice. He got frustrated with a slow driver who would not pull over so he gave him a 720 spin, and although he got a warning he is happy.

Sounds like he inherited something from you!

Good luck to him. I'll keep an eye on this.

So, what is his category this year and do you have any links to watch the races live?

He has had bad luck the last couple of days, got taken out 3 times yesterday and they had to rebuild the engine last night. Had the 3rd fastest time in the warm up this morning but got taken out again in the heat.

No, in Ireland, he is just there with Dan and the UAE team. To much pressure on him if he is surrounded by friends/family.
Don't expect to much to be honest. he got bumped a couple of time in the one heat today. Starts in 33rd position tomorrow in the Pre-Final and it's only 8 laps.
Just have to put this one down to experience.

Re: My Grandson
Ugh! Yeah, starting 33rd in an 8 lap heat does not give you a lot of opportunities. As you say, good experience though.
By the way, are karts provided to them on site?
I'm really tempted to try out one of those Max DD2 karts myself. Back when I was racing Rotax Maxes, they were still a bit in their infancy. The first year I had a lot of technical problems, and my issue was always the lack of power down in the revs which is normal for a 2 stroke. With the DD2 they get two gears which should help alleviate that a bit. Also, they must be so much more reliable now having been around for almost 20 years.

Ouch! That did not end well.
I hope he is not too upset, and takes it all as just more experience.

Okay, 8th in the warm-up this morning should indicate that he is not demotivated!

Re: My Grandson
Obviously disappointed with the week, but he was "taken out" in every race even though he was always in the top 10 lap times. He took it very well and the 2 of them went to Rome for 2 days before for a "bonding session" returning to Dubai.

An update on how Harry's season went in the Rotax British championship. The injured are was actually a broken arm (we found out when he got back to Dubai), god knows how he raced for 2 days with it. https://www.britishkartchampionships.org/news/quick-catch-up-top-junior-rotax-rookie-harry-hannam/?fbclid=IwAR3M2LRNiQp9-8XUFS4W2YOpbmQUQOfIilzLyajnStlG7TfY3ZJ5YlnikJ8

Re: My Grandson
That is truly an amazing accomplishment. I do know how adrenaline makes you overcome pain and suffering though, so I am not really surprised.
One year I was at Phillip Island for a three-day Superbike racing school. On the first day, I caught a cold, and at night I came down with a high fever and basically felt like total crap. The second day I was back on track, spent the whole day training which was extremely physical feeling just fine. Then when I got back to my hotel, I was completely wiped out. High fever and sneezing throughout the night, and then back again for the final day on the track. The same thing, as soon as I was back on the bike and out on track I was fine again. But I think at the end of that third day I was the most exhausted I have ever been....
