Interesting to see that basically all the top drivers are former CART drivers. Is there any top driver there that came from the IRL?

I still think it sucks how the CART/IRL war went down, and miss those CART races from the late 90's. Maybe I should have a look at an Indy race sometime...

Dan Wheldon was an IRL driver I think, and has done good on road courses, including both times I saw him at Watkins Glen. Not sure how he's doing this year.

Wheldon won the Indy 500 this year!!! However, he is so hated that he can't even score a permanent drive. He spends most of his time commentating the Indy Car races on Versus.

The car he won the Indy 500 with was crashed by his rookie replacement the next race. He has a history of being a cocky jerk. However, I have met him a few times and he never showed any signs of an mean ego.

Back from the race. Sato made a great start from pole -- but got eaten up towards the end of the first stint, recovered a few positions after the first pit, but then nudged out by Ryan Hunter-Reay. Unfortunate. Japanese fan beside me got up and simply left the grounds. Saw Hunter-Reay scooter-down to Taku's pit post-race to shake hands, apologize, etc. Professional. I spent a little bit of time in scrutineering -- funny thing with Will Power's car -- they changed the front tires to a "matched" set of mags while they were waiting. But AFAIK, everybody in the top four went through "green-green". Overall, lots of fun. The paddock access is pretty good, lots of meet-n-greet opportunities, lots of autographs. Definitely not F1. Saw a very, very good Eurasia Cup race in the morning. A couple of RX-7's went at it hammer-and-tongs, ended in tears for one of them, and the checker for the other. The lead would change 2 or 3 times every lap.
