Re: iRacing stuff
i have checked it out in my quest to find a PC racing game. i think its way over my head. but funny enough i have something in the works at the moment for my own concept...
i looked at Rfactor and LFS aw well. LFS is appealing because of livery customisation.
iracing is the mother of all simulators... out of my league.

Re: iRacing stuff
another great vid !
iRacing have made some needed changes to the price and structure aswell.
a year sub used to be $156 US, now a 2 year sub is $179, and a year is $99...
all tracks and cars have been reduced alot aswell...
and importantly, the license promotion structure has been changed so that you can be promoted during a season if you have earned enough safety rating, rather than having to wait for the end of each season promotions.
they have the corvette cr6 and Indy cars as of this next season... V8 supercars and phillip island sometime during the year...
never been a better time to check it out.
needless to say, i still look forward to our 1st shamu online races
take it easy all !!

Re: iRacing stuff
here's a review of the last season in iRacing from a bunch of 'aliens' who've formed a sim racing team called teamredline... the team was around before iRacing, but some of them have joined since starting iR.
Don's a bit camp with the commentary and Volker has a pink car, but other than that there's some great footage of some of the best guys in sim racing.

Re: iRacing stuff
Yeah, it's great... except when it's not, like when the whole family's got a cold and mon and dad are too busy taking care of the kids to get the rest to get well themselves... Enough of that...
On topic: I would love to check this out, but my poor obsolete Mac can't even cope with HD videos on youtube, let alone highrez gaming.
My next computer upgrade should allow me a little more latitude.

yeah, i know what you mean... i only just got 2 of my mates into iRacing in the last 2 weeks... we've done sim racing together for 10 years or more now, but they both have 2 little ones now aswell and they hadnt been able to justify it terms of the time they envisioned spending on it... but they've stopped running the older sim/league we've been running together for ages now, and given it a go...
i must say, it makes all the difference to be able to have a session online with someone that you can go and chat with about it afterwards... because it's pretty hard going when you're still 3 seconds off the pace if and when you can hold it together long enough...
the way i look at the expense side of things, though, is that it's like having a go kart in the garage... it's always there if you have a spare moment, but it's cheaper and more time effective than taking it to the track or buying tyres for it once a year... plus there are more tracks, more cars and more competition.
but yeah, i definately appreciate taht when the kids are finally in bed, if it's not a relaxing moment alone, it's time together, or falling asleep aswell... it's all good!

OK it's NASCAR but you have to pinch yourself that youre watching a simulation.
i'm in the pro series for road now... 2 weeks in of 25week championship, top 50 go into the Drivers world champ for road next time it starts... the current dwc is about 8 rounds in... the guy winning has won every race, which is massively outstanding among those top drivers - http://www.inracingnews.com/iracing-news/lucky-seven-for-huttu/ .

Twenty iRacers are poised to race online against Formula One driver Lucas di Grassi (Virgin Racing) and Star Mazda championship leader Conor Daly in the Grand Prix Masters Tournament Finals in Montreal on the eve of the Canadian Grand Prix. In keeping with the international flavor of Formula One and iRacing, the qualifiers represent nearly a dozen international clubs and range in age from 14 to 31. The qualifiers are: Alberto Baraldi (Italy), Kevin Bartsch (France), Andre Boettcher (DE-AT-CH), Richard Crozier (Celtic), Max Dell’Orco (Italy), Evgeniy Donstov (International), Danny Engels (DE-AT-CH), Dave Gelink (Benelux), Philippe Gosselin (Eastern Canada), Klaus Kivekas (Scandinavia), Darryn Lobb (International), Martin Macjon (DE-AT-CH), Aritan Maia (Brazil), Mikko Niemi (Scandinavia), Luke McLean (Australia), Jeffrey Rietveld (Benelux), Victor Szabo (International), Jonathan Stewart (Eastern Canada), Blake Townend (England) and David Williams (England).
The twenty finalists will compete online, from their homes around the world, with de Grassi and Daly in simulators on a stage in Montreal’s Rue de Fortification before a live audience at 5:30 pm ET (21:30 GMT) on June 12. The 20 lap race at Canada’s Mosport International Raceway, will feature Star Mazda cars painted in Dell and Intel liveries. The event will be broadcast live on iRacing.com, with highlights shown on an upcoming edition of the Inside Grand Prix television show.
The three top finishers (excluding Messrs. di Grassi and Daly) will receive a Dell Studio 17 laptop computer (first place), Dell Inspiron Mini 10 Netbook (second place) and iRacing.com Prize Pack ($100 in credits, a diecast car and iRacing hat).
