MotoGP Mugello Empty MotoGP Mugello

Watched the qualifying for a change, and it was thoroughly entertaining. Looks like a pretty tight grid with the times being fairly close, but major disappointment from Rossi. We have Barbera on a satelite Ducati in third and Hayden in fourth, but Rossi never looked like he was doing anything. Ended up in tenth on the grid...

Spies was also disappointing yet again, falling off as he was trying to improve on his time.

Some pretty good racing yesterday, and in all three categories!

Moto3 was great to start with. What I liked was that with all the Spanish riders invading, we had one Spanish rider, one Italian and a German up front. But I was particularly happy to see Fenati back up there, and like the beginning of the season he impressed me with his maturity. The way he was handling the pressure, especially in the last lap, was that of a rider with several years experience and not a hot headed youngster wanting to impress at his home race. Fabulous second place!!

Moto2 was as always incredible. What is fun here is that it is so tight that the tiniest error results in five places lost. They kept swapping positions all the way through, and I was getting hopeful Luthi would get another win. It was not to be, and instead Iannone got a well deserved win at home!

Having been so disappointed with Rossi in the qualy, I was very happy to see him go well in the race. Then in the end, it looked like he might just make it to fight for third, and Hayden looked even better for a Ducati podium. Unfortunately for Hayden he had a coming together with the amazing Bradl (especially considering what Elias was doing with that bike last year), and so Rossi came first Ducati but no podium. Still, not far away! Then there was Lorenzo ruling the class, and Stoner losing his way.

Spies, all that hope, with little payoff.

Rossi used a harder tire, and it hurt him. Odd thing is that Nicky is consistently beating him qualy, only to get beat by Rossi in the race.

Actually Rossi goes better with the hard tire. The main reason he is far back in the qualifying seems to be that he is struggling with the soft qualy tires.

It seems Stoner is becoming a bit of a jerk too. After the race he was claiming Bautista closed the door on him!

yeah, i'm starting to get the shits with Stoner... he cant keep his mouth shut recently it seems :\... he's already retired upstairs i reckon... and if he's not happy, he should bugger off.... there's more than enough talent coming through... all we really need is more manufacturers...

Stoner has had his ups and downs, and has never been the most popular guy there. But he is an incredible talent. The thing is, he is at his best when he just shuts up and rides...

Poor Ben. Time for him to think about what team he will ride for next year.

Totally bummed about that.
