2011 GP Turkeye
So, another race in which Vettel easily sets pole position.
Will anyone be able to challenge him this season?

Re: 2011 GP Turkeye
Incredible pole position, given he only completely 13 full dry laps for the entire weekend before going into quali...
Mercedes were looking strong in FP2 and 3 and proved it to be genuine with a nice P3 slot for Nico. Not sure what happened on MS's lap but he didn't show his early promise.
Surprised to see McLaren lagging a bit, but I think come race, both Macca and Ferrari have strong pace. It all will hinge on the start and if they get stuck behind slower cars and given Ferraris grid spots at least, it may be their undoing (again).

So I wonder what Ferrari will say? Their upgrade package still puts them over half a second behind.

Vettel on the radio during victory lap- "That's what I'm talkin' about!!"
Great race, so much RACING.... and PASSING.
DRS and KERS, looks to be making the show spectator friendly.

That pretty much put the icing on the cake for my F1 weekend - hearing that same old hackneyed phrase coming from Sebastian "One Finger"...gueuzeman wrote:Vettel on the radio during victory lap- "That's what I'm talkin' about!!"
Not stellar:
Some good racing between the Mac boys, but the DRS against those on slightly worn tyres made overtaking too easy this weekend. DRS zone possibly too long?
Schumi made too many errors.
Petrov and Heidfeld waving their respective hands at each-other, as each tries to blame the other - Renault need to make BOTH their drivers sit down and watch the fight between Jens and Lewi ffuxache...and LEARN!
Eddie Jordan re-appeared.
My F1 thread got dissed.
And I failed to overtake Revs, despite my best efforts and "Magic Paddle activation" across two teams...
So only a six-out-of-ten beers for me, I'm afraid.
Dani will be getting bubbly with a 3rd for the Dark Side - and well-deserved IMHO.
And I actually feel sorry for Massa...duff pitstops (along with Lewis') robbed us of a better race.
Not looking forward to the next two races either - Spain, where everybody knows the circuit from pre-season testing MAY be close, but it's such a shit track.
And Monaco, which is shit, period.
Bring on Montreal...! YAY!

Re: 2011 GP Turkeye
Ferrari definitely are not half a second slower per lap in race pace. Webber only just managed to finish ahead of Alonso by a few seconds on the same strategy, and Alonso was only 10 seconds behind the winner.
Their qualifying pace is terrible though, they are at least 8 tenths down.
Not sure what happened to Massa. His bad pit-stop only lost him an extra few seconds surely?
Arguably that was one of MS's worst races in his career. He was slow, he made contact with other cars, and was overtaken god knows how many times. And got trounced by Rosberg, again.
McLaren were very disappointing race pace wise. Not sure where they lost 40-60 seconds over a race distance? Traffic accounts for some, but that's still a good half second plus per lap slower.
Good race from Kamui, awesome to watch.
Petrov was a bit over the top.
Buemi had a good one too.

Re: 2011 GP Turkeye
Sounds like another good race. Maybe I should have watched this one too...
Also, when is M$ going to rebuild the car for the team so he can get back to his old Ferrari dominating days. I mean, he used to be the one doing everything back then, and since he is not winning now I can only assume that somebody else is messing things up for him. Oh yeah, he might need to poach the cleaning lady from Ferrari....

They need Rory back designing the car. Also, you can't win with a boardroom running your team.

Re: 2011 GP Turkeye
Henrik, I know you don't watch F1 anymore but I would suggest to try and catch a few of the next races as I'm sure you'll be surprised how different the racing is this year.
Barcelona is usually a bore fest so if the racing is exciting there, it should be exciting everywhere.
And of course Monaco the week immediately after Barca, that place just amazes me regardless of how 'boring' the racing is, the speeds those guys go through those streets is simply mind boggling.

To be fair to Henrik he did say he watched and enjoyed the Chinese GP.
Barcelona never used to be boring, remember Senna and Mansell wheel to wheel down the straight? I thing the DRS will ensure there is some action at this race, as for Monaco, well it will take something more that the feeding of the 5000 to make that exciting, but, we live in hope.

Re: 2011 GP Turkeye
Danny Boy, Barcelona 1991 with Senna-Mansell was probably the only exciting race we've ever had there. And that was because it was a damp-wet-damp-wet race. The race started in damp conditions so it was all on from the word go.
The only other memorable race there was 1996, torrential rain, with Schumi flogging the 9 cylinder Ferrari through the spray to trounce the field.
