Luca's Latest Rant and Ferrari!
So I absolutely had to comment on Luca Montezemolo's latest rant about the possibility of a breakaway series. (old news, old news!) The best part of the rant came when he started dissing this year's new rules! This is what he had to say:
"We have gone too far with artificial elements. It's like, if I push footballers to wear tennis shoes in the rain. To have so many pit-stops - listen, I want to see competition, I want to see cars on the track. I don't want to see competition in the pits.
A little bit, yes - but in the last race there were 80 pit stops. Come on, it's too much. And the people don't understand anymore because when you come out of the pits you don't know what position you're in.
I think we have gone too far with the machines, too many buttons. The driver is focusing on the buttons, when you have the authorization to overtake. We have gone too far. "
To a large extent I agree with him. While the season has been quite exciting viewing so far, I really dislike the ridiculous amount of pit stops that we are seeing and have often made the comment "What the heck is going on?!!!" during a race! lol! Yes, I am aware that it is increasing the drama, but isn't that what refueling did? I am also very sick of all of these penalties for racing incidents. It's to the point where after the race finishes you are uncertain if the results will remain the same in the morning!
On a side note, what is going on with Ferrari in the pits? We used to be so well-drilled and now we are nowhere! As Playlife pointed out to me recently, when it comes to pit stops the Mercedes team is doing the best job, followed by Mclaren and then Red Bull. Where does Ferrari place? 7th!!!!
Food for thought...but still, if any team can turn this awful start to a season around Ferrari can!!!

Ross is running the Merc Pits. Ferrari can't find a replacement.

Mac aren't doing such a bad job either...a duff Winter Championship, followed by a quick look at the competition - and hey presto...a new exhaust system, and without the expense of a ProntoPrint photocopying bill...! No Ross - check.TopContender wrote:Ross is running the Merc Pits. Ferrari can't find a replacement.
No Merc - check.
So - just "The Pits" left then...
Bugger...
Ashley, Ferrari will recover from this in a major way - from what I've read, the Wind-Tunnel issue has been identified and it will be resolved.
Merc have made headway with understanding why their existing car doesn't match the CFD / Wind-Tunnel figures...hence their latest qually pace - now for them to sort the rear-blistering race-pace issue.
Mac are sort-of on the "middle foot" if such a thing exists...? (Cue "Jake The Peg" lyrics?). They've got the car to work with an RBR-copied exhaust - but they are still working on The Octopus. Dunno where they're gonna bounce to...?
Renault are dropping off the boil. Ditto F1India. Ditto Sauber. Barca is a well-known track - and it might be useful to ALL of the teams to A / B the recent updates versus the Winter Testing results.
And then Monaco - wake me up when that is over, will ya...?

Gelert yup. Regardless of where everyone starts the season, the big boys will develop develop develop and will only become better through the season.
RBRs advantage is a lot less now than it was in Melbourne. Alonso battled with Webber the entire race and was only 10 seconds down the road from Vettel. Seb may have had more time in hand but the gap has reduced.
McLaren went AWOL in Turkey, but in Malaysia and China they looked pacey so aren't too far behind either, still probably ahead of Ferrari.
In season development reaping huge gains was the difference between Ferrari-McLaren compared to the likes of a Honda which was strange since the latter had just as many resources.
