Craft Beer Awakening.

i know we have have a beer thread, but for a while I have noticed a huge micro/craft beer awakening happening here in the US. My state alone has tripled the total number of breweries to 36 in the past 2 years alone. Recently the state of Indiana granted these breweries the ability to sell on Sunday blocking the big guys from selling! Now I can buy a growler of beer for next to nothing, and it is not crap.

The flavors you wonder, are amazing. I can stop by Brugge and get a Tripple, or stop by Bier brewery and get a mint chocolate chip stout. Hell Dogfish Head has an IPA made from surfboard wood.

I hope the awakening continues. Now those jokers at Bud with have to compete on flavor, and not dump crap on our laps and tell us it is a great beer.

I might have to attend the Great American Beer Festival just to see the other states.

TC- craft beer has been awake for a loong time, glad to hear that Indiana is finally waking up. But you might have to become a liberal to really enjoy them.

My dad refers to all craft beer as perfume. He drinks Budweiser or nothing.

It is funny you mentioned the hippies brewing beer. Down the street i have Butler Univeristy's party area called Broad Ripple. We have 6 brewpubs, some catering to hippies, and the others to the right wing WASP crowd. The thing is, that the WASP beer tastes like crap and is overpriced. The hippie beer is cheaper, and tastes lots better. So I stick with the hippies, and ignore the yuppie crowd.

I don't mind fruit in beer(or surfboard wood, for that matter), but it's about balance. It's like anything else that pushes the envelope, for every beer that is truly challenging you palate there some crass capitalist pimping product for the proletariat.

Good joke, but Budweiser was from Czechoslovakia, not Belgium.

I think he is referring to the fact that the American Bud is now owned by Belgians.

Obviously the Czeq Budweiser is actually beer.

One of those beers is a "session beer" - drink loads of it down the pub and last the evening (rather than drink a small amount of a proper brew but appreciate the taste and work that went into it).

The other one is shit.
