Here's a story I found on the net about hanging out with me in Belgium drinking gueuze back in 1994, before I even had a computer, lol. I had found this a long time ago but kind of forgotten about it. Something triggered the memory and I was able to locate it again. It's on the bottom third of the page.

So, Gueuze...why do you sign-off with a "Full-Stop" or "Period", when you should be signing-off with a yodel...? Beer

I am curious to know if anyone in Europe has tried any of the micro-brews that have been popping up here in the states? I'm talking about Fat Tire, Dog Fish Head, Tommy Knocker, Sam Adams, etc.

They are not the typical watered down crap the US is known for, and actually have a few tasty options.

Too lazy to locate the yodel smiley, Gelet.

The double returned period I've found helpful to separate the post from the signature line, creates a space, sucks up bandwidth I suppose.

TC- I'm a big fan of the Dogfish Head (they're making insane concoctions), Fat tire( New Belgium Brewing in Colorado) is not available in NY, but I didi have it in Texas recently- good stuff. Never heard of Tommyknocker ( Named after a Stephen King book, is it from Maine?), And Sam Adams is th Macro micro brew, a great fallback when a place doesn't have any "real" microbrews.

Here in Europe, the only one from that list we get is Sam Adams. I actually did not hink it qualified as a micro brewery, which Gueuze seems to confirm. I do like it though, and it is one of the few beers I still buy.

What I often find is that micro breweries across the world are often good, and certainly pretty much anyone will be better than a mainstream beer. I don't mind some of the big brands like Heineken or Carlsberg in the summer when I am thirsty. But to enjoy a beer I will look elsewhere.

Here in Switzerland there are also a number of micro breweries that are making some really interesting and good beers.

The Tuborg Classic I had in Copenhagen was really good, and I would say Tuborg does not qualify as a micro brewery. So I guess the big brands can also make good beer.

A while back I bought some Holsten Edel (Hamburg Beer) at Dan Murphy's alcohol emporium only to find it was completely different to the Holsten I loved so dearly in Europe. The bottles looked exactly the same as their European bred counterparts except for a single line stating that they were “brewed for export”.

After this I've viewed all imported beers in Australia as suspicious.

What I have found after couple of years of intense research and vigorous field testing that the Tasmanian “James Squire's Golden Ale” is actually not a bad drop at all.

If I'm out or if I can't find some Squire's, then I'm also happy at the moment with the Asahi. I did like the Corona's for a while and then turned off them, I suspect it'll be the same with the Asahi's.

Excellent methodology and application of enthusiasm. Questionable results though, as your research period is way too short - unless of course the sample points were on a regular half-hourly basis over the time-line.

Gelert,

The results are good, we here at “DeadCat's home for Delinquint Feline's” take our experimental research extremely seriously. We have even been criticised in some homo, liberal publications as taking our experiments to a level where bodily harm to both feline and researcher are an absolute certainty.

If I didn't know you guys like I do, I would have thought that you have now totally lost the plot.

As it is, I'm probably the one to have lost the plot.

Asahi? Corona? I suppose they are good beers with not much taste to have cold when you are really thirsty. Me, I like beers with a bit more taste.

gueuze,

As noble as your post may seem, any brewing establishment that sells a beer as crap as “red back” is to be stayed the fuck away from.

Fatyak, Beezneez, Big Helga, Alpha, Dogbolter? These sound more like exotic sexual positions than a quality refreshing beverage. (I'm now curious if there is any sexual position named the Dogbolter; if not, maybe someone needs to invent one.)

Henrik,

Asahi is no Paulaner Weiss that's for sure, but I would rate it a notch or 3 above Corona which just appears to be watered down ocelot piss. We're also currently sampling the range of Boag's beers to see if maybe there's a gem in there somewhere.

With regards to the James Squire's; you may have tried their Pils or the Amber Ale (as sold at restaurants). I don't really rate their Pils at all (unless you want to really get smashed, then they're great) and their Amber ale is OK and will still get you smashed without you really knowing about it until you wake up the following morning to people asking you move away from the front doors of the McDonald’s.

But their Golden Ale is a nice drink with a genuine hops flavour.

(I don't want to know if there are any sexual positions named the 'Golden Ale')

Well, there is something called a "golden shower", and it has to do with beer... I mean piss.

Sorry that you are unable to find satisfactory beverages brewed by a locally owned business that provides jobs in your community and keeps it's profits there as well.
Glad I don't have that problem.

Got plenty of others.

I thought you would have at least had some Coopers. I still miss that over here.

I will be back in Copenhagen tomorrow night, so I think I will have some more Tuborg Classic.

Ended up having Carslberg instead. Seriously, the stuff on tap here in Copenhagen has nothing to do with the Carslberg you get around the rest of the world. Really good stuff!
