What a crazy race.

Is this going to be the last year that Rossi is really in contention? Under normal conditions both Marquez and Lorenzo are quite a bit faster. But Rossi still has the experience and drive that keep him in the fight.

In this race it Rossi threw the race out the window to go head-to-head with Lorenzo in the championship battle and just owned him. Both of them ignoring their pit boards, Lorenzo threw his race away chasing Rossi in the drying conditions. My guess is that a flustered Lorenzo on his dry bike realized how much he's screwed the race by not switching and just lost his head for a moment leading to his race-ending off.

And was it Redding that went down on the opening lap only to come back and finish on the podium?

I've been ripping the races all season. This one had me on the edge of my seat.

Misano was different for sure. I don't think I have seen a race before with two bike changes like that, and the rain obviously tends to level out a bit the playing field.

Lorenzo does not like wet conditions, and Rossi knows it. However, I really think that Rossi should have been smarter and gone in on the same lap Marquez did.

Redding had a great tace as you say, but I think Bradley Smith was the rider of the day for deciding to stay on his slicks for the whole race. It was a huge gamble, that the commentators here thought ridiculous but that totally paid off in the end. Also, a special note for Loris Baz on an open bike coming in fourth.

Oh I agree Rossi should have gone in sooner. But it seems like he stayed out just to mess with Lorenzo, and he did that bigtime. After Marquez went it Rossi and Lorenzo really weren't even in a same race as everyone else anymore. That was a championship battle and when Lorenzo finally decided to join the race again I think he was so flustered that he pushed too hard and screwed himself.

And yes, Bradley Smith gambled and it paid off. He rode really well too.

That result gave Rossi a little breathing room. If he maintains his form and keeps getting podium finishes Lorenzo is going to have to be pretty flawless to catch him.

Yep, Rossi is in a pretty comfortable position now. He is the master of messing with his opponents head, and I think the only one I have ever seen that he has not been able to screw up is Marquez. Lorenzo on the other hand is now a relatively easy target. Already in qualifying Rossi was messing with him a bit, and you ca be damn sure that as the rain started to fall, it almost became too easy.

5 races to go implies that Lorenzo pretty much has to win every single race left in order to win the championship. Given that Marquez is likely to be in it for at least a couple of victories too, I would say the championship at this point is more for Rossi to loose than anything else.
