Manufacturers participate in f1 thanks to their marketing budget. If the opportunity dries up then they move on. Simple. The politics in f1 is there because everyone is trying to best position themselves for that bigger slice of the revenue pie.
kit car teams do it for survival, mnaufacturers (like Ferrari) do it for position.

Choice words coming from Ferrari, Clearly doing some damage limitation.

Next is likely Renault. Although that one seems to have clouded up over the last few months. Just a tactic i suppose to keep investor confidence till the end of the season. With new car sales still down in europe, renault won;t be spending close as much as what they have over the last few years and hey will certainly get a better return as a engine supplier.

f1 has been dead for a long time. its just being kicked in the grave right now. I doubt it will exist by 2012

RDD, I have to admit that Todt running for FIA president was a surprise. All indications was that he was happy to be away from F1. So good prediction there. My source merely mentioned that someone from ferrari was in the pipeline for the job and I did not consider Todt to be with Ferrari anylonger.


However Toyota's leaving was not guesswork. Renault seems to be faltering on what they want to do in F1. Current mumbling are that they will leave f1 this year and supply engines to Red Bull for 2010 and wider in 2011. Talk is that Prodrive will take up the vacancy if they leave. Can;t see how that will be possible unless Prodrive buys the Renault chassis and uses the Renault customer engine. we will see what will happen, information is far more sketchy now so teams are closing up the leaks. Toyota was easy because there are so many annoyed personnel that do not agree with Howlett's management style nor the direction he was taking Toyota. Many people willing to talk
Renault is not so easy to get information anymore.

Most of the rumblings is about McLaren and whether they will actually have Mercedes engines next year.

I wish I had predictive powers but in this case I simply stated what has been common knowledge even while Todt was still at Ferrari - that he was being groomed for Mosley's successor. That's why your vicious attack on me was totally unwarranted.

NIce to see that young master Kobayashi has landed the Sauber drive.

So that leaves Kubica in a bit of a quandry if he decides Renault is not for him.
Heidfeld is expected to be annouced alongside Kobayashi in the next few days.
Heidfeld in next in line for the Mercedes seat if Schumacher turns it down.
