Formula 1 vs WEC
Heck I ended watching the WEC on streaming TV over the weekend and compared it to the f1 circus. WEC is way under rated in terms of spectacle and racing. Even the technical rules are better.
Audi's got some work to get their diesel hybrid into the 8MJ class and are somewhat limited by the fuel flow restriction. Despite that they fair really well against Porsche who have a more powerful drivetrain.
Then I look over to F1 with MErc reaping rewards of developing their hybrid drivetrain since they announced their return in 2009 and have caught everyone especially Renault sleeping and sucking their toes.
Current rules are just so stupid and stifling the sport. Its quite pathetic what F1 has degraded too. MotoGP and WSB offer much better products at a fraction of the cost.
Maybe F1 needs to consider two wheel style rules and promotion instead of heavily politically charged polarised rule boo that advantages only Bernies pay cheque

Re: Formula 1 vs WEC
Indeed, I have been saying this for years. What is a bit scary though with MotoGP is that they began trying to emulate F1 instead of the other way. Luckily things have not gotten as bad as they could, and indeed racing is done at a fraction of the cost.
Then again, if we look at the end of the 90's, I was following very closely the CART racing. In my opinion, they were bringing the best four wheel racing at the time, and perhaps some of the best ever. There was a mix of all kinds of circuits, great driver talent and very exciting racing. The big kicker was that the cost to race there was something like 1/10th of F1 at the time. I spoke with Bobby Rahal at a race (I think it was Nazareth) and he explained that a two car team with a chance to win the title would cost something like $20 million for one season. This was when McLaren and Ferrari would certainly be spending more than $200 million each. I had made the calculation that with the budget of one of the top F1 teams you could cover the entire budget of the CART field.
Yet we all know how that ended...

Re: Formula 1 vs WEC
In order of (IMHO) merit:
BTCC (Including all the Support Races: Ginetta Juniors/55/etc + Porsche Cup GB + Renault Clio + Formula Ford + etc)
GP2.
Formula Renault 3.5.
GP3.
Formula Renault 2.0/European/whatever they want to call it.
WTCC.
Porsche Supercup (Europe)
Only then the 'Soap Opera' that is F1 - but still gotta have my 'fix'....
Would love to watch DTM & Aussie V8's, but that's pay-per-view here in the UK - and I can't justify £120/Annum for BT Sport.
I've never caught-up with WEC...perhaps I should give it a chance?
Just sayin'.

Re: Formula 1 vs WEC
well any chance of VW joining the F1 fray just got shot up in into a million pieces. They've just admitted to cheating to pass the US emissions regulations at their performance level on passenger cars so I guess Winterkorn is going to get his arse handed to him with the company facing an $18Billion fine. I'm sure that will get reduced but the reputational damage will linger.
I reckon Piesch will be back and he's my kinda Bernie loather.
So Red Bull hopes are probably dashed. Renault probably not going to buy Lotus and will opt out. F1 could be dead sooner than anyone imagined

PM sent, Henrik.
Yup Raptor - I saw the news this morning, with an in-depth on BBC News Business.
Not looking good for VW.
...but HOW incredibly 'F1' was their loop-hole approach?
It'll be a shame if they don't get involved in F1 - that kind of deviousness is thoroughly acceptable - until they get caught of course!

Oh it not just VW. They're all doing it. Its just that VW got caught due to the their claims raising the red flag first. All te diesels cannot meet the Tier2 regs if cntinuosu monitoring is in place. The particles traps would get loaded too fast

Re: Formula 1 vs WEC
No big surprise there.
I actually think buying VW stock right now could be a good idea. With the price having dropped over 35% in a couple of days, being the biggest car manufacturer in the world they are bound to bounce back... eventually.

probably will bounce back quicker than most so a good time to buy stock yes. The volume of people seeing this opportunity will serve to raise stck value again pretty quickly.
