Re: Small accomplishments.
I knocked up Srrhgf (who's been Srrhw for 18 month).
So number 2 is coming in april 2010....
And yes, I plan to call him/her "Number 2".
So the first one will be "M$" and the other, "Number 2"...just like it should be.

Wishing you much crappiness, err, I mean, happiness.
Gluttons for punishment, the lot of you. Myself included.
Werner, if you saw the bill, you wouldn't have tile envy. She paid what it was worth.

Re: Small accomplishments.
Werner, so we should assume that 7 is an above average number per cow? Interesting....well at least to me.

Re: Small accomplishments.
Those are pretty good numbers. The first cow I had a lot of trouble with, the flush catheter kept plugging up with uterine debris, and I was only able to get about 60 ml of flush media out of her.
Normally you would infuse 40 to 100 ml of media at a time and then collect hopefully that amount back with each flush into a closed filter, for a total of 1 litre per collection. But I still was able to collect 7 good embryos from her. She probably has more in her but I was in her backside for over 2 hours and we both had enough.
After a couple days these Flush cows receive a hormone to terminate pregnancy in case there are multiple embryos left inside them. In case your wondering the cows are super-ovulated before they are bred and that is why we get so many embryos. It often does not work, sometimes they do not respond to the super-ovulation protocol, sometimes only unfertilized ova are collected for whatever reason and sometimes when they have a good response you do not collect any embryos.

Re: Small accomplishments.
Drove through knee-deep floodwaters last Saturday with my kids without killing the Honda Fit. (That same car, Henrik and greg!)
Dropped off used clothes in the church and cleaned off the mud in my parents' house last Sunday.
Delivered relief goods (bottled water) to flood victims yesterday.

Re: Small accomplishments.
Thanks gueuze, Trix. We were pretty lucky, my kids and I. I was waiting for them at the arts school (their Saturday piano lessons) when the rains started. As soon as they got out we drove off. I learned later that 10 minutes after we left the route we took had already become impassable. The road in front of the piano school had six-foot deep floodwaters in a couple of hours. It was waist-deep within the school itself.
Our house was fine all throughout the storm. But the road 200 meters away had neck-deep water. We were home within an hour after we left the school. Later we lost power for about three hours only (others had no electricity for more than a day).
Overall we were just slightly inconvenienced. I'm still counting my blessings.

Ran a 10k race yesterday morning (sunny). 1:05:47. Four minutes faster than my September 10k (raining), and fourteen minutes faster than my August 10k (night race).

that's wonderful. at the rate you are going, you will break 60 minutes next month.
i will not be surprise if you lost some 15 to 20 pounds by now.
keep it up.

Re: Small accomplishments.
About 15 pounds. And two inches off my waistline. I couldn't achieve that much in two previous years of cycling. I had more progress in 6 months of running.
I hope to go below an hour soon. Once that's done I'm going to the next distance (15k then half-marathon).

Re: Small accomplishments.
It's funny, I started on the road to fitness over a year ago now, running and weights I have lost maybe 3 pounds, but I had to buy a new belt after drilling 2 new holes in the old one. I think I could easily stand to lose 15 pounds, but it won't go. I understand I have lost inches and have replaced fat with muscle but I still have somewhat of a belly. Any suggestions?

Re: Small accomplishments.
Try intervals training/fartleks. Basically you put in sprints or long-stride fast runs followed by recovery walks or slow jogs within your regular jog, instead of just maintaining a constant pace. You'll likely cover less distance and quit earlier but the bursts of power tend to burn more calories overall. And it builds up endurance.
You can also do intervals on the bike. Instead of sprints at mid-gear (4th or 5th gear ring for a 7-gear rear gear cassette), shift down to the second biggest gear ring then pedal as fast as you can for a 60 to 90 seconds. Afterwards, ride slow for 2-3 minutes of recovery. Repeat several times.
