Guitar World Top 100 Guitarists of All Time
So, they had readers vote and ended up with a top 100 list.
The winner is Eddie Van Halen. Now, I like Eddie, and I think he has been very influential over the years and at the end of the day I suppose I can accept that he gets the vote. I would probably placed a number of other guitarists in the first place though... But second place to Brian May? I don't think so! And putting May ahead of Lifeson?
Checking out the whole list, there are some strange results like Santana in 42? Anyway, here's the list:

Seriously, that what you get with a reader's poll. There's some really wrong people on that list.

At least Steve Howe and Pete Townshend scraped in.
Where TF is Steve Hackett...?

And speaking about Steve, did you see he is coming out with a new album "Genesis Revisited 2". Probably worth picking up when it comes out next week...

Yup Henrik - can't wait for it...
...read an interview where Steve was saying that he's finally realised a lot of the Genesis tracks as he wanted them to be recorded/mixed.
Apparently, some of his guitar overdubs were genuinely forgotten about when they were mixing at silly o'clock in the morning.
It should be well interesting...

I will always remember a Steve Hackett concert I saw for the album Defector. The only concert I went to completely straight, and came out feeling totally stoned although I had not taken anything. His music can really mess you up!

Bugger...that's me f*cked then...
I find his music fairly accessible...!
Agreed, Defector was a bit "out there" at the time...and that was part of the beauty of it. Although, as I remember, we had it in the Cassette Player on a "Timer Plug" to act as an Alarm Clock...
But Defector is pretty-much de rigeur prog these days, for the good or the bad of it. It's certainly closer to King Crimson than Selling England for example.
{sigh} I'm getting old - and for me these days Saga's latest (LOL!), or Asia, or Jadis is infinitely more "within my geriatric envelope" than Coheed & Cambria.
Still listening to The Stranglers though...gawd bless 'em.

Re: Guitar World Top 100 Guitarists of All Time
Just working on a usb drive for the new car, and the mix on there does become pretty eclectic. For sure there are the old classics you just can't do without like "Don't be late" or "Wind him up". There's this amazing live version of "Firth of Fifth" I totally love, and a good selection of Rush like"The Trees", "La Villa..." and obviously stuff from Moving Pictures (can't drive a car without "Red Barchetta"!!). There are some old Police songs, and The Clash as well as Queen (Don't Stop Me Now). For some more modern prog/jazz rock there is always Simon Phillips (Indian Summer is amazing). Some more modern rock such as Daughtry, Linkin Park and Breaking Benjamin works well too. Oh, and I have to have Flash & the Pan on there. Back to some slightly older things from Toto with Home of the Brave, Hold the Line and Child's Anthem.
For modern music, I have developed a weird liking for Dubstep like things mixed by Skrillex. Played full blast on the amazing stereo in the car I actually really like it, with the big change in music you get.

Slash and Clapton seem very low. Dimebag is the only the list because he died a year or so ago.

I'm not a guitar person nor do I have much knowledge, but I thought that for their day and age, Bo Diddley and Duane Eddy did some great things that no one had ever heard. Also Bernard Edwards (bassist).
But maybe this comment just shows how little I know lol

Re: Guitar World Top 100 Guitarists of All Time
I suppose trying to place a bassist in the list would be wrong.
The list is the result of a bunch of fans voting for their own favorite. Doesn't really mean anything.
