MotoGp Indy

Well I got my ticket to the show. Lets hope we don't have a typhoon like last year, and that I can find a way to sneak into the paddock area.

Should be a good race...sort of like a new tack again because last year was so f-ed up. I imagine a lot of the silly season stuff will come to a head there.

Keep us up to date TC if you get a chance!

I just heard the Moto2 guys are going to do 40 minutes. Since they are replacing the 250cc class I'm interested in how they sound.

Huh? I thought there were hardly any bikes ready yet. I know the Blusens bike was testing the other week, but it seemed to me that was the only one ready.

TC, make sure you get some pictures, and I also hope the weather is better than last year!!

I was a bit surprised as well...but they said they are doing a 40 minute demo...Almost makes me want to go to see them.

Man I can't wait for this weekend...It will be the first time this year I get to see live MotoGP racing without having to stream it to my PC.

I suppose we are a bit spoiled here in Euroland when it comes to motorcycle racing. But even if I don't get it live, I just wait a few hours and download so that I can watch the races properly on our TV. Also, the WSBK races as well as BSB I don't get at all so the download solves the problem.

I was reading today that now Ducati are confirming Stoner will be back in Estoril. I guess now that the Lorenzo deal didn't work out they have to put the pressure on Stoner.

Also, it seems Laconi might be back riding before the end of the year! Man I was worried for him when he crashed in South Africa, but he is healing nicely it seems.

a bit spoiled. Ha!

I say I race bikes and most people look at me like I'm retarded.

We get 20 hours of NASCAR coverage for a normal race weekend. For bikes we 44 minutes after you remove the commercials.

UGH.

Okay, so you don't get to watch bike racing, but you get to race!

Anyway, I suppose I could get a track bike and go to a track in the area, but the closest track is over 2 hours away.

Well I'm going back to checking out tyres as I need to replace mine. My shop suggested some new Pirelli Diablo Rosso, but I am hesitating with the Michelin Pilot Road 2 CT. Any thoughts?

Track or street or mixed road use? What bike? What kind of pace do you run?

Pirelli's have a notoriously soft carcass...they are hypercritical on air pressures. Too little and the tire rolls over....too much and the tire will chatter. Michelin uses a medium carcass...and is a little more forgiving if you are lazy bastard. We normally see twice the heat cycle life from Michelin's. Michelin heat very quickly with moderate road riding. The 2CT design lets you ride quicker in the twisty bits...without worrying about squaring off the tire in the long flat bits. Also the pure silica design really helps the wear.

Being the Michelin vendor of course I am going to favor them...but I will say this...Pirelli, Dunlop, and Bridgestone all make good tires...it's just that Michelin makes GREAT tires.

For Track use the new Power One's are amazing....I could right a book...but suffice to say we are kicking ass here!

Right...

So, the bike is my Moto Morini Corsaro. High power and really high torque roadster (in my opinion the best roadster out there right now, and better than a Streetfighter...). Riding style is allround, with some mountain pass riding but since summer is coming to an end I will be expecting some wet and slippery conditions. No track at all...

Anyway, I will let you know how the Diablo Rosso turn out as I decided to go for them. I like the rounder profile on these.

Not the most exciting race of the year, but I am really happy to see Nicky on the podium as well as Alex.

Pedrosa's crash was interesting, and it shows clearly the force needed to flick thes bikes around. He tried to flick it over to the right hander, but it was just too far cranked over to go. Rossi's looked a bit strange. I don't really understand how he could have locked up the front like he did, and am wondering of there was a technical problem there. Still, Lorenzo really got a big double victory this weekend on the phsycological fight by first signing again with Yamaha, and then winning with Rossi crashing out. I would say th championship is still wide open!

Yep...the championship is back on like Donkey kong! Woot!!!!

Vale was off line...dirty part of the track from what I am hearing.

Nicky's podium was awesome...made me very happy...almost busted out a tear.

Vale was on the crap line, but even he was looking at data trying to figure it out.

Lorenzo pulled a Vale and drove around in a Captain America outfit, and then pulled some wheelie stunts in the pits.

Vale needs to dress up like Crossbones (the guy who kills Captain America) in the next race that he beats Lorenzo.

Yeah, but I thought I was going to see an epic battle with the 3 going at it. It was still fun and better than watching a 4 hour NECKCAR race.

Laura got to talk to Montoya for a bit, and I met his wife and kids. She had met him at a trade show.

I took some pics with my dad's camera in the Paddock area. I will post them when I get them.

Who was the popular guy in the wheel chair?

If it was in the Yamaha garage that would be Wayne Rainey...1990, 91, 92 MotoGP champion. He was paralyzed in 1993 from a crash. He and Kevin Schwantz had some infamous battles before his injury. I know he ran the Marlboro team for a bit...now he races GoKarts....Henrik may know more...or just do a search.

Just a little push for Yamaha here:
That's one of things about Yamaha...the old racers...the old team guys etc...are pretty much Yamaha for life. Yamaha has done a masterful job keeping great racers involved with the brand. Something that Honda and Ducati have been abysmal at....Racers leave those two brands and talk shit about how they were treated... The common consensus is no one leaves Yamaha.

I would agree with you regarding Honda, but Ducati tend to "keep" a number of their old racers. For sure there will always be some that will talk shit about them, and I think this is mostly related to their recent MotoGP history. Going back over the years there are a number of their WSBK racers still connected to the team. Further back there is obviously a guy like Paul Smart who is still very much connected to Ducati as well.

I suppose the exception for Honda could be Doohan...

Oh, and Schwantz will always be a Suzuki rider!

Yeah i was speaking about current MotoGP and Ducati...thanks for pointing that out.

When I look at Honda here in the states roadracing, and in MotoGP...the list of ex-champ's is impressive...it seems most of them now congregate at Yamaha.

Poor Schwantz...imagine how vital he would be if he rode for Yamaha! Very Happy

I wish people on this site would realize that Schwantz was like Gilles in some ways. Schwantz was just retarded fast...but crashed a lot.

I need to find some video clips.

That is a good comparison, Gilles and Kevin.

I was such a huge fan of Kevin back then. Sure Rainey and Lawson were incredible riders, but I would always cheer more when Kevin won.
