I jumped on iRacing when they were handing out those $5 for a month trial. I quite liked it, just that's a bit expensive for me. Hopefully in the future when the prices go down I will become a regular.

any 'game' you buy will cost around $80-100...

that game will last a year and then they will release another game for the same amount... all the people will migrate to that game and the origonal game will become like rfactor or gpl... a ghost town... they have zero respect for their clientel in terms of improving that product... if it appeals to mummy at christmas time then it's done its job... and it's onto the product for next christmas.

iracing wont replace the content each year with new content, they will add content and update existing content, and everyone will stay onboard... and it will only ever improve.

a one month trial used to be $20... there's always offers around now from $5.

a 1year subscription used to be $250 odd... now its 2years for $179 (or 1year for $99)... after AUS$ exchange, the 2year option is $6.50 a month for me... thats around $80-90 a year... 24cents a day... 1cent an hour... you'll only get 1 or 2 goes of an arcade toss-off-of-a-game for that price and you'll have to find your way there and back again to do it.

nothing will ever ever be able to match or catch up to iracing in terms of reality or authenticity... never.... nor in terms of longevity, cost or clientel... in terms of the tyre model alone, no other 'game' will ever be able to compete, let alone the relationship that iracing has with the actual teams within series to match chassis characteristics through real driver beta testing... it doesnt exist anywhere else.

it's more of a serious hobbie than a game... mummy doesnt buy johnny a console game that he uses for 48hrs and never touches it again here... the teenage kids on this software go to motorracing or engineering school, race midgets, legends or karts on the weekend... and all the very best and fairest from every other sim is in iracing now...

wyatt gooden from ohio is now racing jettas with iracing sponsorship and is winning races... the winner of this years dwc will take $20k for it... real race drivers from nascar to formula mazdas use this software to nut out difficult sections of track and then win on the weekend because of what theyre able to work out.

basically, if you want to put bigger turbos and trinkets on your soon to be fully riced up, already chipped, ported, lowered and neon lighted pinkslip racer production car while a scantly clad chicky sprawls over your bonnet suggestively after a head to head battle with the latest end of level non player character, then get an xbox or playstation and be happy to buy the next forza or gran turismo when it comes out with the same old smell and fudged, make-believe physics, while little prepubescent turds barge pass you in multplayer and expect you to do the same.

if you want to run the most respected racing simulation, then there's only iracing... everything else is an entry level stepping stone or is just a game... the only other simulators that are comparable to iracing are b-spoke creations at ferrari, williams, redbull etc...

you get waaaaay more than what you pay for with iracing... and the price is the same as other games that have a lifespan of 1year, or a gokart session for a day... so don't kid yourself that its too expensive... it's too cheap!

lol that was a very entertaining post Revs Laughing Some good points made, much appreciated putting the time to write that up.

Since the last time I tried it, I didn't realise the prices have dropped to something more affordable. I assume you still have to pay for each individual car and track you want to add to your garage?

Maybe it's time to revisit it.

Would love to have a shot at rFactor Pro, half of the 2009 F1 teams use it, including RBR.

yep, there is free start up content, but the content beyond rookie entry level you have to lease individually... you dont have to re-lease it every year along with your membership, it's a one off purchase.

this is from the start up FAQ on iracing.com
A basic subscription for one year is $99 (which translates to $8.55 per month) and comes with everything you need to compete in your rookie season - three cars, two of them with two specifications each [rev-limited and or setup-limited] and seven tracks with 15 different configurations.

We also offer additional content (cars and tracks) that cost either $11.95 or $14.95. Volume discounts are also available: 10% for any three pieces of content purchased at the same time, 20% for any six pieces of content purchased at the same time and 25% when you purchase everything available.

The most cost-effective method to subscribe over time is the 2-year subscription plan which costs $179 or less than $7.50 per month. We also offer one and three month subscription packages for $14 and $36 respectively.

In addition, we offer race participation credit in which you can earn up to $40 per year to put towards future purchases.

Hey Revs, how is version 2.0 of iRacing?

No surprise that rFactor 2 is still not out, just a few more WIP videos. Looks really good though!

I hope the flatspot is not just a texture but a tyre deformation.

kin awesome! Very Happy

its the first version of the new tyre model, so it will be given heaps and heaps of tweaks over the next few years, but now it has heaps more parts to it that can be tweaked also... right now, the way the tyres are modelled, the physics alone are doing pretty much all the matching of the telemetry, where as before, as with every other racing sim before it, the numbers were squished to match the telemetry...

just an exampl,, before there was too much grip on high speed bends due to the whole tyre dealing with the load across the whole thing, now the loaded part of the tyre that deforms towards the road, heats, complains, and lets go, and the rest of the tyre behaves accordingly, temps and pressures rise, compliance drops and takes longer to recover... its not that tyre modelling before didnt do that, or there abouts, its just that it didnt rely on raw physics to do it, and it didnt have as many parameters to refine, so it was at its absolute limit trying to deal with what people expect.

there are no other sims... just get iRacing, and come get some Takagi up ye!!! Laughing

i was trading laptimes with Shane Van Gisbergen last night, he pipped my time by a 10th... it's almost like he gets payed to do it!! lol Very Happy

Did another month of iRacing in late September, good fun. Lots more cars available I've noticed since I last raced. Unfortunately I can't commit to it on a longer term because of 'real life' getting 'in the way' and not always having an internet connection.

Yeh I've tried it out twice, sometime near when it was first released and then again last month.

It's just a question of finding the time for it, I'd hate to pay and have it sitting dormant for 6 months.

Will let you know when I next jump on.
