H8R...fairing question!

H8R (and anyone else with experience in body plastics),

I am on the verge of ordering a set of Catalyst fairings for the bike. It seems they are just about the only company left whom actually moulds their fairings here in the States, versus shipping out the process to China...

I even asked the guy at Shark Skinz, and he said they ship out a lot of work, and wouldn't tell me where...go figure. The only other place I could find is a Canadian outfit that had real knowledgable people, and did "...most, if not all their moulds in house."

Catalyst seems to be a husband and wife outfit that works out of a warehouse in San Marcos, California.

Anyway, just curious if you've had any expeirence with them at all??? Everyone else seems to say go w/ Shark Skinz (out of Florida), but heck...if they ship their work out to China as well...I don't want to play.

Anyways, just looking for your two cents worth...

Can't offer any help there. I know some here in Europe that them locally, but nothing in the US.

Henrik...don't laugh, I actually contacted a guy in the UK that makes them himself. Seems like possibly the best quality, but was a bit more expensive...then the shipping too. After thinking about it for some time, I decided to pass in case there were any probs when they got here. What a pain to rectify any errors from so far away. I guess it would just have taken more time than anything.

On the flip side: Damned, I just re-read my previous post and it does sound pretty freakin' arrogant. It's not that I'm looking for "Made in America", but that I'm seriously NOT wanting anything stamped out from China. Seems they have serious issues getting things to match up, plus from what I've been able to get info on, they seem brittle...kind of "explode" on impact...LOL...that would suck!

I'll send you a pot of "Sweet n' Sour Sauce" as made in England by Chinese people.

Trust me when I say that this stuff will glue anything to anything - and will absorb any impact from whatever direction. Christ - if they made aircraft out of this stuff, then the most brittle bit would be the Black Box...!

The colour might affect potential sales of passenger seats on aircraft though...

Not arrogant Racer, just realistic. The problem in general is that you get what you pay for, and with the low prices for "Made in China" products you often get crap. The worst thing is that they export their high quality stuff. You should see things in (or near) China!

I figured you would not have a problem with a European product either, but that the price would be a problem, especially when the freight would be factored in. Also, with the dollar heading further south, any Euro import will become prohibitly expensive. For us on the the other hand, buying from the US is becoming a sweet deal...

I just bought a new used Mac Pro and purchased 2 21.5" HD monitors for it. Both are the same brand an model, yet they appeared to be from different manufacturing facilities and the box closures were different as well as the internal packing. One package was far nicer than the other. I actually suspect that one is NOT from china... And the light up power switches change to orange when the monitors go to sleep, the one I suspect is Chinese is a different color...

I would be fine with not having anymore cheap cheap Chinese crap on the market.

Catalyst along with Shark Skinz makes the best bodywork.

Shark skinz and most brands are made in Mexico....OSHA and EPA standards are just to tuff to get around in California.

By best I mean they are flexible and the primered product you get only needs to be scuffed to paint. Hot Bodies and the Chinese brands are Stiff and have lots of pinholes and flaws. Most painters charge more to paint race plastics from Hot bodies etc.

Thanks for the scoop! I greatly appreciate it...they're supposed to be here late this week, or early next week. I decided to go ahead and get Catalyst, since they make'em in their warehouse in California. She said expect them to go out no later than the 16th!!!

Anyways, I will check into the Kurvey Girl site when they get in, to see what all I'm going to need. Thanks again for your input!!! I'll keep ya updated on how it all goes & turns out.
