Henrik, H8R & co...

I know Henrik rides, I was curious as to whether or not anyone else here rides.

If so, I'd like to know what you ride, and where! I saw the greatest video of a track in Greece, I'll see if I can find the site and give a link to it...fellow riders would probably really appreciate it. It's NOT the normal "on bike" footage.

Anyway, I ride a 2007 Yamaha R6 and the tracks I spend my time on are Cresson Motor Sport Ranch (MSR-C), Eagle's Canyon, and Harris Hills Road Racetrack (H2R).

If anyone's interested, I'll try to post links to the tracks in the next few days, just to give you an idea of what we get to ride on here in Texas. There are roughly seven real good tracks, however only three of them have good elevation changes with tight technical turns. The others are relatively flat, with lots of long straights and a few technical turns. I prefer the tight stuff w/ elevation changes...

Anyway, just curious to see if anyone else out there runs tracks, and if so what they're like.

Thanks,

OK, here's the link to the "Track Day" in Greece...again, it's not the typical "on bike" footage, but more of an artisits view of what all takes place at a Track Day. Must have the sound turned on!!! I was so impressed with this guys filming. Seems he's a rider and a film student in college & this was his assignment. OK, here goes, hope this works:

Don't forget to have the sound on, it's beautiful music w/ the footage...

Here's a link to one of my favorite tracks (will be there Nov 7th & 8th).

It's Motor Sport Ranch-Cresson

http://www.motorsportranch.com/3.1-road-course.cfm

Check out the track layout...it's fantastic, with plenty of elevation change. Unfortunately, they'll only be running the 1.7 mile version this coming week-end, however the 3.1 mile version is without a doubt my favorite!

Here's a link to my second favorite track (Harris Hill Road - H2R)

http://harrishillroad.com/about/track/

Check out the turn called Santa Maria (she's a biatch...LOL), it's about the closest thing I could find to the famed corckscrew...LOL. When running the course counter clockwise, the climb from turn 5 to 4 (Santa Maria) is roughly 35 feet! It's an incredible turning climb. One hell of a rush when you get it right!!!

OK, I'll post more later...

Would love to see some of the tracks you all have run!

Best regards,

Passing only in the Green Areas...?

Shocked

I fear yet another new breed of Motor Racing rules coming on...!

Love to see Matt Neal (BTCC) stick to THAT rule - LOL...!

Having hi-jacked this for a 4-wheeled perspective, I now return you to your usual broadcast... pirat

Those look like some really nice tracks Racer. The only track I have ever been on (which is the best track in the world) is Phillip Island in Australia. Truly amazing track, and it was especially impressive to ride it two days after the MotoGP, and get to see all the black marks where the big boys would spin their rear tires!!!

Over here in Switzerland there are no tracks at all, but I have discovered there is one about 2 hours from here in France that I will check out next year. Otherwise, we have both the Jura mountains and the Alps right here, giving probably the best riding roads in the world. I love going on rides with my brother in the area on weekends, and we had a great tour in May down to Italy.

I believe H8R has a lot more experience of different tracks.

ROFL...yeah, that's for Track Day purposes, not racing!!! ;-)

Anyways, the track day is split into four groups:

1.) Beginner 2.) Intermediate 3.) Novice 4.) Expert

The beginners are not allowed to pass unless accompanied by an instructor and they're in the GREEN area. The Intermediate groupd can pass ONLY after their second session, and again passes are limited to the GREEN ares. The Novice and Expert classes...hell, it's a free for all: passing allowed at any location.

Oh, and for levels 1 & 2...only outside passing is allowed. It sucks to be level 1 or 2...LOL!

Henrik...the mountains can be every bit as twisty as any track!!! I run out to the hill country and have more fun the the law allows (really) on the asphalt roller coasters out there!!! Good luck on getting to a track day next year!!! Our season is quickly coming to an end here...there's three more Track Day events & I'm heading to one this week-end in the Dallas/Ft Worth area (my favorite track: Cresson). They pretty much cease all Track Days after the last one in November (Nov 27th this year) and then start back up in late Februaury...

Makes me really dislike Dec & January...rofl!

OK...stay in touch & I'll pop a few more links to other tracks if anyone is interested in see what else we get to fly around over here in Texas.

Here's a link to Eagle Canyon...another real fun track with elevation & tight turns...a good technical track!

http://www.eaglescanyon.com/2008/facilities.php

I'm confident I'll work in at least two runs there next year. Great track, but like Cresson, the long version is awesome. Unfortunately, with the long version, you almost have to have a litre bike...I'll bust butt, catch and pass a litre bike on the short side, and then when we hit the straight the guy walks right past me and I have to do it all over again...LOL.

OK...catch ya later,

Here the riding season is really coming to an end. The snow is falling ten minutes from our house tonight, and they will start salting the roads. Will have to wait until March now at least to start riding properly again.

But on Friday we are going to Valencia to attend the last MotoGP race of the season. It is going to be great, and I am especially looking forward to seeing the last 250cc race ever! I have always loved the 250's and I have high hopes for the new Moto2 for next year. I would love to have a go at a proper 2 stroke 250 race bike some day on a track....

Henrik...Wuff, sorry to hear about the snow & salting. I'll try not to mention riding until the weathre gets more suited for it!!! As for your trip to Valencia...how cool is that!?!!?!??!?!!?

I'm excited for you! And the 250...I have a funny story for you about one of those things too! My last track day, a 13 year old kid walks into the class room and discusses body positoning, and a few things like that. I'm curious as to whom he is, but not seeing him ride at all made me wonder. After the Track Day was "officially" over, one of the instructors told me to stick around. Sure enough, this kid breaks out an older 250 and rips teh track a new one. Amazing at how fast he was...not to mention the amount of rubber he left on the tracks in some turns...obviously doing it on purpose, getting the ass end out, sliding it around for fun.

He was almost playing tag with Doug Pollen and a couple other guys. Four of them on the track at the same time, passing, and being passed. Doug Pollen's on a Ducati 1098, my instructor was on the Streetfighter, and this kid on the 250cc and impressively holding his own. These four guys were just having a blast, and when they came in they couldn't stop laughing about their little game...

Too fun to watch!

Wow, have a super trip & tell greg99 I said Hello!!!

Take care,

I'm not surprised with the kid being fast on the 250. Just check the lap times between the 250's and the MotoGP, and you will find that on some tracks like Sachsenring the top placed 250 would be mid-grid in the MotoGP!! They are seriously fast, and on a twisty track their nibbleness gives them one hell of an advantage (if you know how to ride that is...)
